Interesting, but no software. Would not at least the drivers be needed? I guess you could download those...but no burning software?

I love this drive, but the software it came with kind of bites -- so I wouldn't worry about it not being included. It burns great with Nero, DVD MovieFactory, DVD Complete -- whatever. Kind of hurts that it's now running $80 bucks less than I paid. But thems the breaks in Technoland.

        Vidgal:

Since you have this drive and I am really considering getting one, is there anything you can tell me about it? Anything to be aware of or firmware upgrades that might need to be done?

        Thanks!

I have the drive. No firmware upgrades are required.

But you will want the latest driver:

My drive has worked without a hitch since it was installed. I believe I did load the XP drivers when I first installed it, otherwise everything is exactly as it came. It has been recognized by everything I have tried. My only bad disks have been media related. However, I get the $1 Meritline stuff, so an occassional problem disk is no big deal. I originally wanted the Pioneer, but settled for this one because it was less. Now, I am really glad I got it and may get another to set up on my other machine. I paid nearly $240, so $165 is a hec of a deal.

Well, I just broke down and got the drive a few minutes ago. A total of $177 to include shipping. Man, you just can't beat that with a stick!

Can anyone recommend a good source for blank DVDs at a good price? I have a feeling I will be really busy in the next week!

              Thanks!

Hmmm that's interesting because my Pioneer 104 did not require any driver at all under WinXP.
It was just recognized and I was burning away.

Or am I missing something here?

Yes, the A04 doesn't do DVDRAM.

You need a driver for the DVDRAM device part of it.

Or you can ignore it and only use the burner device.

I'm sure Jerry will fill in the details.

Even the bare drive ships with a driver disc.

But I would recommend using the newest driver:
