  • TMPGenc + Nero + SVCD = audio out of sync, hints?

Trying to make SVCD, capturing to MJPEG with PCVCR or VirtualDub,
clipping ends with VirtualDub, direct transfer, encode to MPEG2 with TMPG,
standard SVCD setting. Burn with Nero 5.0.1.3.
Amazingly, resulting SVCD plays in my Philips player.
But the video gets ahead of the audio, about 2 or so seconds
    over a 4 minute clip.
I remember reading somewhere a convoluted method of demux and remux
that's supposed to take care of this, unfortunately I didn't
save it anywhere obvious. I tried demux and remux with TMPG,
it still went out of sync. Any ideas?

    BTW, more information:
    - No dropped frames on the capture (NTSC 352x480)
    - MJPEG AVI plays OK with Media Player
    - My CPU doesn't have enough HP to play the MPEG2
so I can't tell whose fault it is, TMPG or Nero.
    - SVCD video looks great otherwise!

      Frankie,

Is the original AVI you captured in synch the whole way through?

What rate did you save the audio in? I always save it at 44.1Khz / 16bit stereo for the AVI and I use 128kbps for the audio rate in TMPGEnc - you don't need more for SVCD. I haven't noticed a synch problem on 10+ mins of video.

      Glad you got it going!

Yes, MJPEG AVI plays OK all the way through with Media Player.
Which bit rate am I supposed to use? I had left it at "Constant Quality".
I cooked another one overnight using Variable but
have not tried it yet. It showed a bit rate of only 1150, that
don't sound right. It was 480x480 MPEG2 however.
I'll poke around some more SVCD sites, if anyone knows any,
especially for TMPG, please point me at them. I'm starting
to record musical acts on Letterman, Leno, SNL, VH1 etc. and SVCD
would be perfect for them if I could get the sound to come
        out right!

Phil: to answer your first question, I left the audio
at the 224K default. I capture 44.1KHz (it's musical stuff, after all).
I was ticked the other night because Jimmy Page and the
Black Crows were on Leno, so I set the PC-VCR timer for 00:18-00:31
as that would fill up 2GB @ 352x480 MJPEG.
I forgot about that %$&^%%&^ Democratic convention, it
pushed Leno back nearly an hour and I wound up getting
          hem telling his stupid jokes.

What model player? My Philips DVD940 (Firmware 6.2) hasn't worked for me. I'm using TMPGEnc + Nero also. (VCD works fine though).
