  • MSPro PowerPatch II: updated info....

My sources at Ulead are saying they are "hoping for the PowerPatch 2 to be released during the week of 11/18" with the latest MainConcept *.dll's.

Hopefully this will take care of the problems some are having with MPEG.now quality and the VBR "surging" issues.

                Do I get a prize?

                I'd guess November 18th.

Would that be the long awaited release of MSPro 7.0 ??

This explains a lot of things

In the whole world, except N. America, the conventional date system is ascending:
                          dd.mmm.yyyy
(ie, you start at the shortest and move to the longest)

An exception was made, especially in Scandinavia, because early computer systems were unable to put the three components of a date into separate memory segments, so they conveniently reversed it into:
                          yyyy.mmm.dd
This was logical at the time.

For some unknown reason, N. America went
                          mmm.dd.yyyy
which is totally illogical, as the first step is descending and the second step is ascending. However, I see that a number of US Government departments are sensibly using
dd.mmm.yyyy (e.g., the Customs forms that everyone has to fill in on entering the country), so there is hope, yet

What is less hopeful is the US adopting the metric system, despite a Bill passed in Congress in 1887, yes, 1887, making it the official standard system.

                            Americans would say it's the rest of the world that's doing it weird, and as you should know by now we tend to think for ourselves. Reasons;

                            1. When you talk about a reference in a book you go chapter/paragraph (or verse); the order being major division/minor division.

                            2. When speaking or writing numbers the order is whole number first then the fractional part; again listing them in the major division/minor division order.

Think about it; would you really write "1/3 3 RPM" as the rotational speed for an old LP?

                            3. When the date is spoken most everywhere I've been in the world says it as mmm.dd.yyyy.

Then why not month/date? Changing the order when it's abbreviated to numeric form is nonsensical and inconsistant.

As far as the year being last; at least you have that part right

Year-month-day-hr-min-second is the most "logical" the when months are numbered and ASCI sort gives chronological order.

Lots of Linux stuff uses this scheme for version control -- no ambiguity as to which versions are which and what order they were released -- something Ulead and most of the PC world could learn from!
