    With my Marvel came presets for MS 5.2
    Which are the correct presets for MediaStudio 6.0?
    Can I use the same as for MS 5.2 or does
    anybody have the correct ones for 6.0?
    Please help!

    There are some changes you need to make to the c:\windows\system.ini file for MSPro6 and the Marvel or RR-G.

    In [VIODRIVER] add the following entries to turn on the Advanced MPEG options and DVD compatability;

    [VIODRIVER]
    Advance=1
    SeqHeader=1

    In [Playback] comment out this entry to make cutlist playback OpenDML compliant;

    [Playback]
    ;PlayDll5=C:\PROGRA~1\MATROX~1\MCLPlugin.dll

    The actual PlayDLL index number used may vary. In some installations it might read PlayDll1, in others a different number may be used.

    In any case putting the semicolon before it disables the line. This forces MSPro6 to use its own OpenDML compliant cutlist support instead of Matrox's, which is not OpenDML compliant.

    OpenDML is important as it allows the use of larger than 2 gig video files. 4 gigs in FAT32; over a terabyte in NTFS under WinNT4 or Win2000.

      Dr. Mordrid,

      thank you for your help!
      I did a lot of experimenting with the settings - but MSP 6 was not very stable and the output to TV/tape did not work.

      So I deleted my trial version of MSP 6 and switched to a full version of MSP 5.2 - using the template files distributed by matrox.

      Should I use the ulead32.ini settings you gave my for MSP 6 also for the MSP 5.2-version or do you have other settings?

      I know that these settings have been posted sometimes here in the forum - but I wasn´t able to find them.

      Thank you!

        Hi Doc,

        I am curious if you are still using FAT32 for your video capture drive and using Winternals software to read it under NT 4.0

        If the above is correct could you explain why you are not taking advantage of the greater file capture size using NTFS? Is there a speed or stability issue?

        I was wondering if I wouldn't be better off setting my system up under a "pure" NT 4.0 filesystem.
        Perspective cannot be taught. It must be learned.

          I have a multiboot system with Win98SE, NT4-SP6 and Linux.

          To be honest about it I don't find the > 2/4 gig capacity of NTFS that useful for most projects. Especially when the Win98SE capture drivers are better behaved and more stable and I can play very long projects directly to tape.

          It makes no difference when archiving the project to CD if it consists of one big rendered and edited video file or a Packaged folder containing several smaller clips with a project file that contains the edits. Actually the Packaged archive is better if it becomes necessary to re-edit it later.

          In my projects I usually capture only those sequences I need for my project, not hours of video at once. This is similar to what one would do with DV and device control. When I do need to capture long sequences I use AVI_IO to do serial captures and snip out what I don't need in MSPro6. Since the average scene length I use is < 5 minutes large files are not really that useful.

          IF (and that's a big IF) I do expect to render a file > 2/4 gigs I just boot into NT4 and render it to an NTFS partition on one of Godzillas dual 120 gig RAID0 arrays.

          Godzilla = the new name for my big system

          This gives me a lot of flexibility.
