    Problems with using huffle-puff in virtualdub

    Hi.
    I've installed the huffyuv codec but when I open virtualdub, go to 'capture avi' and select the compression tab for video I dn't get the huffyuv option (in fact there's nothing there to select).
    Yet, if I open virtualdub and go to video compression before I select 'capture avi' the list is full (including huffyuv).
    What am I doing wrong?
    I'm trying to play around with different settings but ain't having much luck.

    make sure your capture card format is set to RGB or preferably some form of YUV. If it outputs something like mjpeg, huffy won't appear as a choice.

        did you use RGB or YUV? RGB takes mega PCI bus bandwidth.

          huffy needs a reasonable chunk of HDD perfomance eg..dedicated drive or very fast RAID.

          10 seconds probably means you ran out of buffer/cache as your HDD could not keep up

            When I went to the format settings, if I remember correctly I only had options of 8RGB, 16RGB, 24RGB & MPEG, I didn't see a YUV option.

              I have two Matxor D740X 80gb hdd's and a RAID card due next week so that should help.
              Once these arrive do you think my processor is a problem?
              I'm in the process of changing my motherboard (to incorporate a Sis chipset) but can't afford to renew my processor (or 512mb SDRam for that matter).

                Huff is such a low level compression that it does not require very much CPU power. It is very disc intensive as you found out.

                  The two Maxtors with the RAID controller should provide you with more than adequate speed to capture full size uncompressed video, so capturing Huff should be Absolutely Fabulous, darling!
