DVD Playback with Marvel G-400

Hi,

I've been using a G-200 Marvel for quite some time. DVD playback used to work pretty good with Zoran SoftDVD player that came with the G-200. However, when I recently upgraded drivers, Zoran SoftDVD became unusable.

I decided to go ahead and get myself a G-400 Marvel. I installed the latest drivers and the software DVD player that came on the G-400 CD.

Now, when I play DVDs, any time there is fast movement in the video or rapidly changing images, I get a sort of horizontal bar effect in the picture. These are thick horizontal bars, not thin lines.

I have a 500 MHz PIII processor and 128MB RAM and I'm running Windows 98SE.

Has anyone seen a similar problem? If so, is there a solution?

What resolution are you running at?

Is this on TV or monitor?

Hi CrazyBee,

I am running at 1024x768 16 bit color.

The horizontal bars appear both on the computer monitor and on the external TV output.

What kind of DVD player are you using? Mainboard?

I ask because for some time I was using a lowly C-466 with the Marvel G400 and got great playback. This was using a Toshiba SD-M1202 DVD reader on an Asus P3B-F 440BX mainboard. IMHO the Toshiba's are great DVD drives.

Also important is that there is a lot of room for the swapfile. If you have less than 256 megs free on the boot drive (or where ever you've assigned it to) this can also adversly affect playback.

Hi Doc Mordrid,

The DVD drive is a "Digital Research" labeled drive, but according to Device Manager, it is actually a Toshiba SD-M1212.

My motherboard is a BCM-QS440BX.

I have 2.55 GB free on my C:\ drive, where the swapfile resides.

Any ideas?
