    My hardware

Well, I apologize if I didn't give the right description of my problem. MY hardware setup is as follows :

MoBo MSI K7T Turbo LE (MS-6330, Via KT133)
    CPU Athlon 1.4 GHz
    768 of PC133 RAM
    1 x Maxtor ATA-100 40GB 7200rpm HD for OS and apps
    1 x Maxtor ATA-100 40GB 7200rpm HD for capture
    Matrox G450 eTV
    ATI TV Wonder VE
    Adaptec DuoConnect (Firewire & USB2)

The OS is Win2K Pro SP 3

I describe again what I did first : I captured four 5 GB files (around 4 hours) in MPEG-2 format using WinDVR from my Hi8 tapes. Then I inserted the 4 files in Pinnacle Studio 8. The edition was long, not because I inserted too many titles (around 6) or transitions (a dozen) but because the HD did too many I/O when going from one scene to another, even if they were in the same file.

Anyway, after the edition was done I went to the "Make movie" tab and I choose MPEG-2 (NTSC DVD) quality for the output. Studio started generating the final MPEG-2 file (I don't know if it re-renders the input since it was already in MPEG-2 format). The result was completely out of sync.

Then I decided to capture in AVI mode and 352x240 resolution and you know the rest of the story.

So, I know I have two problems : the most important is the lousy heatsink/fan : I'll clean it as suggested or replace it if the cleaning doesn't work. The other comes from the HD, I suppose, and there's little I can do except get RAID.

Please consider this thread closed... I hate flame wars and this video editing stuff is only a hobby for me so it's supposed to be fun.

      Fine its closed.

But let me add this though:

You will find your hobby much more enjoyable if you keep the Mpeg2 capturing format (VBR,CBR,Data-rate,res) in WinDVR exactly the same as that, that Studio defines as being the DVD standard - when you do, you will find that Studio performs a "smart render" that requires only transitions and titles to be re-rendered - ie - your render time is minimized to the absolute minimum.

Now whether you want to believe me or not regarding the RAID is obviously up to you - I cannot force you to be sensible.
