  • RT2500 or RT X100

I want to do the following:

Analogue capture for archiving (DV or MPEG2 format)
    Editing (Basic cuts and effects)
Export to MPEG (VCD, DVD for distribution)

I don't know whether to get the RT2500 or save a bit, upgrade my system and get the X100...

Oh, and I've got the Parhelia and intend to upgrade to triple head in the near future.

    Any ideas?

You'll have more export options with the RT.X100, including a batch encoder (MediaExport) that can do MPEG-1/2 (DVD/VCD/SVCD), WMV and Real. It can also do realtime export of DV or separate *.m2v and *.avi files to the HDD. IF you ever find the need to do some luma/chroma keying the RT.X100 is definitely the way to go. Realtime color correction, white balance and other such features also make the RT.X100 have a faster workflow.

I believe both work with TH.

Not much in the way of cost is necessary. An AthlonXP 2000+, MSI 745 Ultra and 512 megs or better of DDR266 the RT.X100 should be very happy. About $300 USD if you do your shopping.

And don't forget that the new MSI 746F 8Xtreme Athlon board coming in 3-4 weeks. It sports a 333mhz FSB, 6 channel audio, PC 3200 support, AGP 8x, 5 PCI's and Bluetooth. Some might even come with onboard IEEE-1394.

          I was planning to get:
          Supermicro P4SAA (Intel E7205)
          2x 1Gb DDR ECC
          Intel Pentium 4 3.06Gb

It'll be my 3rd year major upgrade... and should run anything very well.
