G200 / 5.82 performs better at 24-bit color than 16-bit

I just tried the 5.82 Windows 2000 Drivers with my Marvel G200 and they "worked." The installation properly detected my Marvel G200 as a Marvel G200-TV AGP card. Interestingly enough, the MS OpenGL screen savers run better when I set the desktop color depth to 24-bit. In fact, it doesn't look like the MS OpenGL screen savers are accelerated when I run them in 16-bit color depth. I would prefer to run at 16-bit color depth. Any suggestions?

My system config is as follows:

Marvel G200-TV AGP 16 MB running at 2x AGP (no tweaks)
ASUS CUSL2-C with 512 MB Crucial PC133 CAS2 RAM
Pentium III 933 @133 FSB
Diamond Monster MX300 with 5.12.1.2559 Beta Aureal Driver

There is no hardware accelleration on the G200 @ 24 bit color depth

If I set my desktop color depth to 16-bit, the 3D Pipes screen saver runs very slowly and there are black lines in the pipes. If I change the color depth to 24-bit, the 3D Pipes screen saver runs very quickly and the image has none of the black line imperfections.

Looks like we're making progress - the 5.86 drivers fix the OpenGL Screensaver speed problem, but I still see black lines in the pipes. I installed the 5.86 drivers by first unzipping the 5.82 drivers (for the G450eTV), copying the 5.86 g200*.* files into the 5.82 installation directory, and then running the 5.82 setup. The Marvel G200 AGP is properly detected and installed with no .inf file mods.

This also resolved a 3DMark2001SE problem that I had which caused G200D.dll to bluescreen during the 3DMark2001SE demo.

Looking forward to the next set of G200 drivers. Maybe these will do the trick?

My driver file versions are as follows:

Driver package still reported as 5.82.

5.88 Beta drivers correctly recognize the Marvel G200 AGP-TV and work just fine. They still don't resolve the "black lines" that I see in the OpenGL 3DPipes screen saver and in HalfLife (when I run in OpenGL mode), but the drivers are solid otherwise.
