  • Which vid card best for out to TV??

I am currently running an ASUS 6600 deluxe W s-vid in/out,comp.out.and use hi8 camcorder to capture from. picture is good coming in and on the monitor, but out to TV to see on TV monitor or record on vcr is crappy. Definately not even TV quality. And does not fill screen. out to TV is 704x480.
I am new at video editing and just getting the feel of it. Have Athlon 600 w128meg ram
20gig hd 7200 rpm-not big enough.would like to purchase new vided card but which one would fill my needs at a comperable price.
    Any help would be appreciated.

Analog out to TV or tape is where the Marvel has no peer even at twice the price.

Unfortunately the G200 Marvel I have can only send dmb1 MJPEG to the video out hardware.

Supposedly the G400 dualhead "clone" mode will output any codec. I'm sure Doc will fill us in with the details.

      He sure will ;-)

Actually it's DVDMax. I set mine up to scale the video to fit the display as well.

With this setup almost anything that plays in MediaPlayer will go out to the vidout. MPEG, DivX, Cinepak...you name it (almost).

I use it all the time to preview how VCD files will look when played on the DVD player.

        Can i see a normal-video-preview on my video-monitor (connected via MarvelG400-video-out?)

I completely agree with Dr Mordrid, IMH the Matrox cards ( be it Marvel or RR ) are THE BEST , repeat, THE BEST , for video Output, Input still has some minor probs. I have had no problems at all with most of the video formats out there, except with some resolutions that refused to work with DVDMax, but enabling Clone DualHead fixed the problem ( just maximize the video window and voila! the same as DVDMax )

To be precize, DVDMAX mode is the only one that allows correct full screen TV output of ready movie. All other modes cannot preserve field structure (if present) and can be used only for frame based video.
More, DVDMAX mode is working only with codecs that are relatively new and support overlay/directdraw accelerated playback on G400. Some combinations of resolution and color depth do not allow DVDMAX output with MPEG4 (v2 or 3 from MS). Pure uncompressed RGB will not play in DVDMAX on TV output too. Most DVD decoders and Mpeg1 decoder inside Mediaplayer can do this well.

To use DVDMAX, you may need to find working combinations. The otput quality is definitely excellent.
