Anyone try one of these yet. Supposedly it does DVD-r/-rw and DVD +r/+rw as well as CD and it is supposed to be pretty fast as well. Looks like it may be the one I have been waiting for.

I almost picked one up at Fry's, but they didn't have any 4X media in stock. Since then they've been sold out. Not having a bunch of opened box returns on the shelves is usually also a good sign.
I've heard good and bad, mostly the bad is it seems to be picky about CD-R brands when burning full speed. A firmware update is said to help.
I've decided to wait for some other combo burners to hit the market. TDK and Liteon are supposed to have ones coming soon.
In the mean time, I'm happy with my external 1394 Ikebana (Ricoh drive) DVD+RW/R.

I'm due to get one after new years eve (when they do apere in stock again in sweden )If there's artificial intelligence, there's bound to be some artificial stupidity.
Jeremy Clarkson "806 brake horsepower..and that on that limp wrist faerie liquid the Americans call petrol, if you run it on the more explosive jungle juice we have in Europe you'd be getting 850 brake horsepower..."

They seem to be fine but have a bit of a speed-problem with reading DVD media (which is cured a bit with newer BIOSes).
Since I don't plan on using the burner for reading, I guess I will get one, when they're available here in Germany

Combo DVD+RW/R DVD-R/RW is IMHO the best way out of this format war.
DVD+R vs DVD-R is pretty much a non-issue, byt having a combo burner lets you handle the odd player that works with DVD+R but not DVD-R (I have one) or vice-versa.
The RW fromat lack enough compatability in standard players to not be worth much for video. For computer data DVD+RW has real advantages over DVD-RW.
I think the combo burners simply make the most sense right now even if only to be able to buy whatever quality media is in stock or on sale when you need it. But around here Verbatim DVD+R and DVD-R blanks have been the same price -- $30 for a 15 count spindle.
