  • P3B-F Problems

I have a P3B-F board Rev 1005 running a Celeron 2 566mhz. I was trying to update the bios to Rev 1006 and got this error message "Unknown EEPROM type, Please press exit button to exit".

Now this is the third P3B that I have installed and is the only one that has refused to update the bios. Noted differences with this board are:

-It was manufactured in china as opposed to Taiwan for the others.

-The markings on the bios chip seems to be different to the others.

All the boards were supplied by the same dealer in California and from all indications they are reputable. I however, live in the Caribbean so it is very costly to send back. Any ideas what may be the problem with this board?

It's been my experience not to flash the BIOS unless the current version fixes a problem I am having... After reading the Release Notes text file that almost always accompanies a download of this sort, do you really need to update your BIOS?

Some companies go as far as instructing you not to update if the fixes do not pretain to you.

DJ: Have you tried to download the latest version of aflash.exe from ASUS Web site?

Well I took dgcom's advice and used a different aflash.exe and it worked perfectly. As to why I would want to do this, well my celeron 566 is not properly supported by Rev 1005 and as a result I was getting problems with drop frames on capture and stuttering playback. All seems to be well now. Thanks guys.
