  • MSPro 7.0 screenshots

    Most of these run under 60k, but the one with all the video filters runs 188k. I'm not directly putting them into the post for those without broadband.

    The new Audio Mixer:

    Very neat. Note that you can group channels, among other things.

    Storyboard/Add to A/B Roll:

    Improvements here too. You can now set the overlap by frames instead of seconds, control cues, add a default transition and an automatic audio crossfade.

    Image import/auto moving path:

    Yup...you can import an image or images with an automatic stationary basic 2D moving path and the alpha channel automatically applied (for those images with one).

    If the images are first imported to the Storyboard these can also have an "Add to A/B Roll" export done to the timeline with a default transition of definable length.

    Uppance: instant slideshows;

    General/Summary Timelines:

    General Timeline is the "usual" timeline where you have to zoom way out to see the whole project, which means the transitions and audio crossfades are very tough to select/adjust.

    General Timeline;

    Summary Timeline is a whole other world. In Summary Timeline the clips are visually shortened while the transitions and audio crossfades are made a standard size so you can actually WORK with them. This is a PATENTED feature so you won't see it anywhere else!!

    Summary Timeline;

    Playback Options:

    Here you can set your Instant Playback and High Quality playback devices, control your CPU utilization and the degree of multi-threading (even on single CPU systems);

    Playback devices for Instant Playback;

    Scrubbing can also be exported to these devices;

    as can the preview windows of all the effects dialogs; titler, overlay options, transitions, video filters etc.

    Some of the cooler new Video Filters:

    ALL the video filters:

    Windows Media 9 encoder:

    And if you think that's all you're nuts....

      I take it you approve of the content if not the timetable?

      Just so you know: some major stuff I can't show because the UI's & final features are still being finalized.

        Woahhhh, thanks for the post, it looks really exciting.

        Under "High Quality playback device", what's the "Options" button for?

          The high quality playback can be routed...

          1. ...to your dual head device
          2. ...to your DV camcorder or deck
          3. ...to your Video Editor Preview Window
          4. ...to both your Video Editor Preview Window & your DV device

          ...similar to the 'options' for the INSTANT PLAYBACK as shown here:

            Thanks for responding Jerry.

            My question to Terry was about the "Options" button, not the pull down list. If you look, on the right of the different possible devices for preview, there's a button labeled "Options".

              That is for High Quality preview devices that have advanced options in their drivers.

              One thing I didn't mention in my first post was Video Capture, which also has some new features;

              1. capture to DV type1 or type2; 4:3 or 16:9. Yes; full 16:9 support is now part of the mix.

              2. it can capture WMV by IEEE-1394 as well as the usual MPEG-1/2 from analog or IEEE-1394.

              3. it now has a Scan/Capture tool similar to that in the Matrox RT.X100 MediaTools.

              This tool can scan the tape and capture it's scenes at once. Once done it can save/load a "scan file" of what was on that tape for later reuse.

              The captures are shown as a thumbnail plus the markin/markout info, recording time, filename etc. When finished you can click on any of the thumbnails and press a Play button to get a thumbnail sized preview what is in that clip.

              Of course there are one or two things I cannot discuss, but you get the idea

                The scan and capture tool would seem to be similar to the Canopus RAPTOR NAVI software, which is an amazingly powerful tool for long form video producers who have 50 or more source tapes to manage.

                FBerger: Sorry. I thought you were talking about the drop down options; the options button was grayed out and wasn't easy for my eyes to even notice.

                  Yup. Having those Scan & Capture project files is a very nice way to handle previously captured tapes. Just load in the tape, open the S&C project file in Video Capture, check the clips you want in the dialog and off you go.

                        Hi All,

                        Well this certainly looks quite delicious, indeed! I'll be eagerly awaiting the first MSP7 patch... maybe by June? I mean, let's be realistic here. The PR department at Ulead has a great track record on their initially announced release dates, and the patch timetables are usually into another quarter by the time everything works well. I remember the change to DV support was announced sometime in the month of August, but DV was not realistically working until the end of the following January.

                        So, I really am being charitable in predicting next June as the point in time where all of this will actually "work".

                        Not that I'm a Ulead-basher, by any means. I've been using MSP since the Rainbow Runner, and I love it. But let's not get our panties all scrunched up when this March comes and goes without a working MSP7 product in our hands...

                          Jeff b...

                          1. MediaStudio Pro supported DV prior to the release of version 6.0, but only DV boards that were proprietary in nature such as the Canopus DV Raptor.

                          2. DV Support in connection with OHCI compliant boards with Direct Show capture architecture hit the market in March of 2000 with version 6.0 of MediaStudio Pro and it was a 'first' in the industry.

                          3. Timeline playback wasn't even claimed or advertised in the initial version 6.0 release...

                          4. Timeline playback was added as a 'new downloadable feature' to version 6 in the early summer of 2000...

                          5. The initial timeline playback driver didn't work as expected, but Ulead had it fixed by August of 2000... in fewer than 3 months.

                          Bear in mind, at that point in history, Direct Show capture and playback was still a 'new' technology.

                          Premiere didn't even support OHCI compliant DV boards until much later.

                            And to this day Premiere 6.5 still doesn't support OHCI DV type1 files on the timeline. Try it and it'll crash in flames.

                              Yes!!! Finally some meters on the audio tracks. Clip to clip levels will be much easier to match now.
