I am wondering about the difference between DVD-RW and DVD-RAM. I have experience with CD burners but none with DVD burners yet.
With a CD/RW you have to first erase the disk before you can re-record. I never use RWs becuase -R media is so cheap. I assume the same is true for DVD/RW, you have to first erase the disk before reusing it.
What about DVD-RAM, can you just record over the contents without a seperate erase pass.? And how about playing these in stand alone DVD players, does it work?

Quick warning:
The LG GMA-4020B apparently reads and writes to DVD-RAM, but only the bare disc DVD-RAM media.
This means one has to remove DVD-RAM discs from their cartridges to use them with this model.
I'm changing my order to get the Panasonic SW-9571, which supports both bare disc DVD-RAM and the cartridge DVD-RAM media.
In answer to your question, Can-o-Pus, the LG and the Panasonic drives support both the DVD-RAM and the DVD-RW.
The DVD-RW will play in *some* stand alone players.
The DVD-RAM cartridges will play only in specific Panasonic, Toshiba and Samsung players/recorders.
Check each model for specifics.
