  • Need some advice with Panasonic MPEG compressor settings please.

I'm having a hard time finding a setting that will simply brighten up the video.

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks

I have obtained really good results with Virtual Dub for that purpose using a special filter called Hue/Saturation/Intensity ( the link is in the VD page ) . Sorry but I dont have the encodr you mention installed, but I assure you that this one works very well.
It even has preview to see the final effect without having to encode anything, saves a lot of time!

I don't think Panasonic encoder has a brightness or gamma control. It does have RGB controls if that helps. You might want to look up some posts here on TMPEGEnc encoder (lots of them recently) because I think I remember someone saying they were able to increase the brightness in it by changing another setting.

        Hi,

The easiest way to feed your encoder with corrected video is to use VirtualDub as frameserver. For this,
        1. Download VirtualDub from http://www.geocities.com/virtualdub
        2. Run Auxsetup.exe to set up frame server.
        3. Run VirtualDub and open your movie. Set filters that correct brighness (brightness/contrast filter for you)
4.Choose Start frameserver command on the file. Save the signpost file as say 1.vdr
        5. Run encoder (Panasonic works fine) and open this .vdr file as source.

You can use many other filters to improve your video with VirtualDub. The best thing is that you do not need to recompress you video before feeding it to mpeg encoder.

Another program that works in the similar way is avisynth: http://www.math.berkeley.edu/~benrg/avisynth.html.
It has several good features, not available for VirtualDub.

It is also possible to use some of avisynth filters and feed output to VirtualDub, use its filters, and then feed the result to mpeg encoder. Going this way you make all possibilities of both programs working for you.

Is there a way to make the two preview screens smaller so they can both be on the screen at the same time. Even when I'm at max for the virtual dub app the output preview screen is half off the monitor.

Also, is there a plug in to change color values? A plug-in for Virtual Dub I mean.

            Thanks again,

You can try the Hue/Saturation/Intensity filter, it has given me excellent results.
You can find it in the "More Filters" page, here is the link: http://www186.pair.com/vdub/virtualdub_filters.html
              Have a nice render!

Right click any of preview windows in virtualdub and choose between three sizes.
