  • Disabling Explorer Video Details

    Hi,

    I have about 200GB of video files on a server.

    When i look at these files accross my LAN in windows explorer, explorer trys to find the details of these files (resolution, duration, etc).

    Because all the files are all in a single directory, it brings my computer to a halt for about 5mins while it tries to obtain the details.

    Does anybody know of a registry setting to stop explorer trying to find the details of the video files?

    Thanks

    The only thing I've found that works reliably across reboots and server shutdown-restarts is to turn off "web view" on all folders.

    Tool->Folder Options->General Tab-->Web Biew->Use Classic Folders.

    Each folder is supposed to remember its display options so in theory after you've suffered thru this once you can change to list or small icon view and not get the details, but this in general doesn't stick for long.

    I too would be intrested in a better solution.

      I have found how to stop it!

      After surfing the registry for a while, i found you need to delete the following keys when they are associated with a file type.

      However DONT delete them from the CLSID sections of the registry.

      To Remove the properties from AVI files
      87D62D94-71B3-4b9a-9489-5FE6850DC73E

      To remove the properties from Microsoft Video Media

      To remove the properties from Microsoft Audio Media

      and to remove the thumbnails from Video files

      Explorer now flies when browsing my video files
