  • G450 eTV - I need some 101 help on making SVCD please!

I'm new to video editing and am actually interested in starting a business on the side in this field. The church I am associated with has a need to do some video editing and I suggested they purchase the G450 eTV card after doing some investigation.

    System:
    AMD XP 2100+ (1.7Ghz)
    ASUS A7S333 MB
    512 MB Ram
    Maxtor 120 GB HD
    SB Audigy (OEM)
    Matrox G450 eTV
    O/S Windows 2000 Professional

I have partitioned the HD to a 20GB FAT32 for the O/S and programs and the other 100 GB is NTFS as the D: drive for video capture and editing.

I recorded about an hour of TV (Star Trek) that I wanted to later edit with Ulead Studio software bundled with this card. I recorded the show through the PCVCR but found that I could not load it into the Ulead software ... or I don't know how.

Then I started to do the same thing with Ulead software and chose the TV card as the source and started recording about 10 minutes. When I stopped recording there was a file creation error and I was unable to access the file I recorded.

My intention was to record a show and then edit out all of the commercials and then make an SVCD and I'm not sure on how to do this properly and could use some help please.

Also is it possible to use a DVD player as a source of input and capture it to the HD? I ask this because at this time there is no DVD-ROM on this computer but we might be adding a DVD-RW in the future. Thanks to everyone in adavance for their replies!

    vcd's

I'm not top dog on creating vcd's from your own video but I can help concerning DVD's. to get video off a dvd you need a ripper program like cladDVD ripper. you can't just copy video off a disk, this is to try and stop pyrates. HA HA .this program will copy the vob files to your hard drive and you you can play them strait of your HD with out the disk.power dvd is best for this.
You then need to encode it MPEG from the vob file using somthing like FLASK program because no editing software will accept it in that format. once you get it to MPEG format you can do what you want with it.
    THATS THE HARD WAY.
This is what I recommend, Get a program called DVDx www.labdv.com
With this program you can put your dvd in your rom drive. Open the program and select the ifo file of the dvd disk which will open the film into DVDx. you can select the out put format you want. There is a slide bar to get to you desired part in the film. Tell it how long a part of the film you want to rip and press encode. Its as easy as that.you can set file sizes to 650 or 700 megabite so when it reaches this size it will automaticly start a new file for you. After you have your mpeg just use nero to burn your vcd's. hope this helps.....
