    Doc

How come that many of us have no problems with the Marvel/Live! combination if it's as bad as you say? Granted I use the v. 2 drivers on the principle that if it ain't broke, don't fix it.

If the truth be told, I believe that the problem is not with Live! but with the motherboards they are plugged into. There may be some unidentified quirk that some boards are prone to. I had hell's own problem with an Asus P2B and another Asus (model forgotten but running a PentiumPro 200) and all sound cards, including the SB16 ISA one. They both worked fine except for two apps: continuous voice recognition and video. Both were absolutely unusable. Changing both mother boards and the problems were all solved in half-an-hour with both computers. I now obtain 97%+ dictation accuracy with IBM ViaVoice Pro and an SB16 card in one computer and no problems with the Marvel/Live!/MSP6 combination in the other.

I don't know about games as I never really graduated above Minesweeper. I do have Flight Simulator on which I may have a go for half an hour every six months or so, usually successfully flying between the antennae on the Sear's building in my Cessna and then landing back at Meirs, more often than not off the runway and sometimes with the prop trying to dig a well. This is on the same machine as the voice software, so I cannot judge it with Live!.

If you want my opinion I´d stick with an ISA sound card for audio capture and a PCI one for new games and such. Just select the input through the ISA and under the games select the PCI for 3D and that stuff, problem fixed. I have a Sound Blaster AWE 32 ISA with an Ensonic PCI, perfect match! Just try
