Sony DRU500, my first DVD

DVD-R seems to be the fastest and cheapest media at the moment. What brands are you guys using, or is the generic stuff OK?

I'm using the verbatim stuff, +r/-r with my 500a, no coasters yet.

So far I have used Memorex +R & -R, TDK -RW and Verbatim +RW no problems with my DRU500 (all play in my cheapo DVD player as well!). I have had one coaster, but the system locked up during the write, this was due to other issues which have been fixed.

With my first sony (firmware 1.0d) i had success with TDK dvd+/-R, Princo dvd-R , bulk noname (made by princo) dvd-R, sony dvd+RW, philips dvd+RW and Princo dvd-RW. Well, two weeks after date of purchase the drive died (while it was erasing a -RW disk) and 3 weeks later i got a replacement drive with f/w 1.0g.
TDK still works ok, Samsung dvd-R ok, but with Princo dvd-R disks (jewel case) i have problems after the half of a full movie (movie freezes in whatever player i've thrown the disk).
So, is it a disk problem? is it a f/w problem? or a combination of both ?
All disks (except the bad Princo) play fine on my 2 dvd-players a sony 725D and a cheap Yukai.
