  • NEW G400 drivers - NO NEW Marvel G400

Well, for those of you who have G400 and G200 boards, Matrox has a new set of drivers (v5.14) on their FTP (still have yet to update the website yet). Unfortunately for us Marvel owners, we are once again left with nothing.

    Hi,

    Concerning drivers:
I am using G200 Mystique and Win2k at job. The last Win2K driver update is of 24 feb. This update does not allow 85 Hz refresh rate at 1152x864, but only 75 Hz. Surprisingly, 85 Hz is possible at 1280x1024 which is too high resolution for my eyes.
To Matrox developers: How can this be? When new drivers become available?

Monitor type: Viewsonic PT775 OR just Plug and Play monitor: no difference.

I can use Win2k built-in drivers with 1152x864x85 Hz, but these drivers have poor image quality with some software codecs - no hardware filtering when scaling.

Is it too hard to preserve original set of resolutions and refresh rates and correct old problems at the same time?

    Grigory

I'm not sure that we're going to see any more Marvel style boards. I'd think that now Matrox video division have delved (very successfully) into the consumer market with the RT2000, I'd be surprised to see the Graphics division come up with any more video products. Since they've always told us that the video market was a minor marketing ploy, I think that they'll concentrate on gaming boards and maybe creep into the "professional" 3D market. That leaves the Video division to do what they were supposed to do. Given that it is almost a year since the release of RT2000, I'd be thinking that they should be releasing some kind of enhanced version in the near future.

Well the latest driver release lists the Marvel G450 eTV. As for them concentrating on gaming boards I hope that's not what they are supposed to be doing, the new G450 performs worse than the vanilla G400!

Seems the "minor marketing ploy" worked "very successfully," too. Those legions of trusting buyers who bit on the ploy (and helped finance the RT2000) really do deserve support for their cards, which, btw, are not so very old. I rarely use the red-hot angry Icon in this forum, but I was tempted this time.

Does anyone know what the new drivers release notes are. What changed? I could care less unless they found a way to improve something with the YUY2 portion (ie. fix it) and incorporate the 3D update from the newest so that I could play GPL (the only game I USED to play). Other than that I don't see a whole lot that they could improve upon, realistically. I mean everything seems to work and there are no fatal bugs in the last couple of versions that I am aware of. Of course if there was a new set I would be downloading it right now along with the rest of you.
