Review of Hitachi DZ-MV23A DVD-R/RAM Camcorder:

I plan to get a DVD-R/DVD-RAM camcorder within the next year.

I've been playing with Panasonic's DVD-RAM (DVD-VR) editing software lately and it works great - and in REAL TIME - for simple editing of material recorded on DVD-RAM.

    Jerry,

I suggest if you are thinking of going down this road that you only use the DVDRAM option. I have a review in front of me (Oz Videocamera July 2002) on the DZ-MV238E. It is quit complimentry until it gets to the use of DVD-R media. For a 30 minutes capture to disk you have to wait another 28 minutes to finalize the disk before it can be played back on a stand alone DVD Player.. Too long for average user..

      Paul,

I agree... the DVD-RAM is the best of the two options.

I am using a DMR-E20 here at work.

But I've also learned that it's easy to do basic - yet time saving - editing on the DVD-RAM disc and then copy the .VRO file recorded via the DVD-VR (video recording) method and change the extension to .MPG and then burn it to a DVD-R using my Panasonic DVD-R/DVD-RAM drives.

      My new SW-9571 Panasonic is a drive that burns DVD-R, DVD-RW, DVD-RAM, CD-R and CD-RW.

      Very nice drive.

      I love it.
