Looks like AMD 64 supports all the 3D instruction sets even SSE2

    Thanks Ray for the link..

Yes, and on top of that the heat it produces is lower than the P4!

That's the picture I tried to post... it showed the temps of all the cpu's... which is very important going forward.

If amd can pull this off, this could get really exciting.

On another note I read that if Opteron takes off in sales that IBM will OEM it. Hmmm???

That would be great news for AMD if IBM OEM's the chip. I think IBM will create the 64 bit desktop/workstation/server based on their AIX OS.

This could also rock the NLE world as we speak, imagine MSP 7.0 with 5 layers of video in RT with effects, PLUS Matrox RT effects on two of those layers as well

        I'm in!

        Cheers,
        Elie

Nice low cost Intel-smashers ... assuming Intel doesn't do something radical until then. But I thought the clawhammer was pushed back to the end of the year?

The Athlon64 (desktop) was delayed, not the Opteron (server).

so the early versions of Opteron has only 256K of L2 Cache?
