  • 2 questions...

I've read through the forum and found the following(please correct me if I'm wrong):
*)There's no way I could capture MJPEG video with my RR-G above 704x576. Even if I could I wouldn't be able to play it back...
*)Currently there's no free SW to create standard VOB files from separate audio/video file...
    Thanx,
    Chris

    Hi

Not sure exactly what you're asking here. On Q1, the quoted res is maximum PAL (704*576) once trimmed by he hardware codec (full res would be 720*576). Maximum NTSC is 704*480. This shouldn't limit you.

On Q2, I don't have personal experience at cuting VCD, but there are plenty of folks that do who have posted to the forum, Reading through them may give insight on creating VOBs

      1. Full D1 NTSC video is 720x480, just like NTSC DV. Full D1 PAL video is 720x576, just like PAL DV.

The 16 pixels you loose with the Matrox hardware mean nothing as they are in the normally invisible overscan area. You would only see notice the difference on an out-of-adjustment TV.

Many cards, such as the Pinnacle DC series, take this one step further and have 640x480 capture modes to fit more recording time into a 2 gig file.

      2. The trial version of DVDit! might get you started;

      http://support.dvdit.com/download/

      Just a 45 meg download

DVDit! can transcode your *.avi's to *.vob, create the menu's and DVD content and burn it to a CD (aka: miniDVD) or DVD disk.

I don't know the limitations of the trial software as I use the full version.

        Thanx for all replies...
This_Idiot: You've got the point. I forgot to put any questions in the post. Sorry. I just wanted to know whether these infos are correct or not.
Doc: I'm downloading it now... Thanx for the tip.
The 704 width doesn't bother me too much, it's really invisible, but when I want to put it on a DV I have to stretch it to 720, which takes some time even on a Duron@900 ...
I think this fuss with 704 is because the 720 can't be divided with 32. This 704, and 352 width seems to be hardwired in the chip.
