There'll be a frame off to the left that has the different models of camera. Go to the Sony and Canon one.

If you scroll down and read about Digital8 models, all with the "e" for European after them, you'll see the options that have been opened when applying the DV-in software. One is MANUAL WHITE BALANCE in the MENU!!!

Well, how about doing some research and find out how to "hack" Sony's NTSC Digital8 camcorders? Then you can post your results here and be applauded by one and all. I'm serious!

The LynxDV site has an area where you can ask for codes, so I did. I just hope the white balance code they're playing with is not PAL specific...

Their software transfers over a LANC cable. I've got a MediaMotion that should be able to cut the mustard.

They'll be sending it to me in an email.

Does the MediaMotion card have a serial to LANC adapter? It would be real interesting if you are able to make these changes to the camcorder's "software" using this device.

I've looked over the site (and other similar sites) that you mentioned and I've always been somewhat confused (and scared off) by references to the PAL versions of these camcorders. That and the fact that I don't currently have any way of sending info through the LANC connector.

Yes the MediaMotion is a serial to LANC adapter. The only difference between it and the one LynxDV sells is that Videonics made a little box that allows you to "network" up to 8 devices or so. There are sites out there that teach you how to build a LANC connector.

I have an NTSC D8 TR7000.

I've looked into this but have been scared off by the potential differences in PAL vs NTSC models.

If you can enable the Manual White Balance and on-the-fly analog in to firewire (without recording) I'd sure like to know how to do it!

You can find there all codes, cable connection and software. Read carefully and you'll be succesfull. Personally first I've bought Lynx's Sony DVin package and the rest (Zebra, Manual WB, interval recording, Show Clone/gain) I've done with Lynx's software according to instuctions on web pages above.

NTSC model has DVin enabled I suppose. Lynx's is providing software for ENABLING DVin on European (PAL) models. (BTW only AutoPC95 I know can permanently enable DVin on new SONY D8 at this time)

LANC DeviceDriver for Windows-2000?

Is a programmer out there in the cyberspace, who is able to write a devicedriver for W2K, which can handle the "lowcost" cable (LPT1-LANC)?

I think, if such a freeware driver would be available with documented API, there would be soon al lot of useful tools available and the programer would become a good place in the "hall of fame"...
