Is there a front end or something that I need to download? I'm wary of just downloading things from MS for fear of bloatware. Though I'd ask here first.

    WM9 codec

Hi : you'll need the Windows Media Encoder (you can download it for free from the MS site). However I'm not sure if it will recognize the G450 eTV since it doesn't have a WDM driver !! I have both a G450 eTV and an ATI TV Wonder VE because of that.

And to my disappointment Windows Media Encoder doesn´t work with every WDM-driver based capture card either. It doesn´t work with my Terratec Cinergy card. Maybe the cards or the drivers should comply to more standards than just being WDM based.

All I wanted to do was check out the convert some files to have a look at the codecs.

Downloaded Encoder 9. Installed and tried to open a huffyuv encoded file. Program throws me and error message and shuts down. Bah! I don't want to waste any time on this junk. I immediately removed all traces of it from my system. I'll try MS video related software in two years, maybe they'll get it together by then.

BTW, my system is extremely stable. It NEVER goes down, so I know it's not the system. I'm sure that program can't handle huffyuv or some other stupid MS caviat, that is in line with their having no understand of what many people would actually do with such software. Like I said, I was just checking it out and don't need it. It's not worth my time.
