Failed to build a preview graph (ADVC100)

This is just a FYI


I was having the “failed to build a preview graph” problem with MSPro6.52 and couldn’t find a way to routinely overcome it.

Everything was fine with my Sony D8 camera, but my ADVC100 wouldn’t play ball.
Before I added MSPro6.52 and DX9 the Canopus would be a bit temperamental, but would always talk to my PC after it (ADVC100) was turned off then on again.

I’ve gone back to an image of my PC that I saved in early January. This has DX8.1 on it and in two days I’ve not encountered “failed to build a preview graph”.

So (big assumption, I know) in my case it seems to have been a DirectX problem.

I’m not sure there is a way to go back to a previous DX, but I guess I was lucky in saving an image!

This may also be an OS-related problem. Which one are you using?

It is difficult to revert a DX version, short of deleting WIN and re-installing everything from scratch. You were wise to make an image.

I'm using DX8.1 with an ADVC-100 and W2k/SP2 and have no problems, but it's quite likely that I would opt for DX9 when I receive the boxed version of MSP7, which has DX9 on the CD-ROM, I believe. Thanks for the warning: note taken!

My image was with W2k/SP2, but after I added SP3 things were still OK.
