  • Preview out on Parhelia and MSP

    The Matrox page lists only MSP v7.0 as an upcoming supported software for the preview window being sent to a seperate device. Can anyone like Doc confirm that 6.5 is not working that way? Do you BBs have 7.0 working? This is a featue I love about my G450 eTV and would love to have on the Parhelia.

    Thanks!

    The Preview window isn't the only preview function one should look at when examining capabilities. You also have Source window, instant previews (or realtime) and scrubbing. How these work in 6.5 is a mixed bag because some of its preview functions do overlay using Video for Windows (scrubs & instant preview) while the others (timeline preview and source window) use DirectShow.

    A similar situation exists with Adobe Premiere 6.5 in that timeline previews go out to a DirectShow device while its timeline realtime previews do not.

    In MSPro7 everything does overlay the same way, so using the latest Matrox drivers puts you in a very good place. You also also have the alternatives of using the Preview window only, DV Camcorder only, a Dual Head Device or both the Preview Window and a DV camera for previews;

    By previewing to a DV Camera without a Preview window display you save CPU cycles and reduce the liklihood of dropped frames.

    An added plus is that in MSPro7 you also get preview device options in effects previews, which means you can set up the titler, overlay options, moving paths and video filters to preview to the Preview window, Dual Head Device or your DV camera;

    Very handy for setting up chromakeys (shown), titles, color corrections, the OldFilm effect etc.

    MSPro7's preview functions work very nicely on my Parhelia-128, with better quality on both the screen and analog outs.
