OT : That I didn't expect.....
My post on the Pinnacle forum just got closed, after ONE brief "first impressions" thread I'd opened there.
I bare no grudge toward the guys over there, but I was a bit surprised by this decission. The forum is dedicated to the DV500 specifically, a card I used to own quite a long time and have tried to support as well as I could over the years, even well after I had moved on to other solutions. Since the DV500 card can be used under MSP7.0 since the new drivers provided the card with the much needed OHCI compliancy, I saw this as an EXTENSION of the cards' capabilities and features, giving new life to an aging hardware solution.
Now I've had post of mine banned over there in the past couple of years, never for reasons other than technical issues which I raised now and then. And yes, those were posts aimed to get the attention of the company, so they were at least partly expected to be erased. I just presented 7 points of what I thought was very interesting for the DV500 user, and added an 8 point stating I wouldn't comment any further at the risk beeing kicked out (again) of their forum. They didn't consider it to be funny it would seem.
This is the first time the sheer _mentioning_ of another NLE package got this result, though I talked openly about Avid, Canopus, Matrox and a couple of other products there too in the past and their advantages above the DV500. I think I had enough credit earned in terms of trying to be as honest and unbiassed as I could in all my dealings with Pinnacle. Apparantly not.
....I forgot that MSP doesn't just attack Adobe's position : even more so, it probably attacks Pinnacle's Edition even harder as for me MSP7.0 does the things Edition was promissing to do. Edition didn't go down too well with many DV500 users though, as it combines a fairly ircksome userinterface to a lack of features and a stability level that's not entirely above suspission, guess that explains their reaction somewhat. It's doubble odd because Pinnacle _in spite of popular belief so it sometimes seems_ does have a couple of very nice, powerfull and well written products on their shelves. I see it as an open admission they see MSP as a serious threat, and they have no answer ready nor in the pipeline.
Sorry to take up space on this forum with this kind of posting, but this one I really did not see coming. I suddenly realise full well what kind of liberty I left behind when I stopped visiting this forum so many years ago. Late wake up call I suppose.
Slightly disappointed,
Kris
