  • Crowded?

Well its almost time for my secret project (well one of them, and its not so secret - see here )

Thinking about a slightly expanded home for you guys, maybe splitting up DV hardware and Software into different forums.

I just want some feedback on the idea, or if you have any ideas for specific forums you would like to see, or extra things you would like murc to deal with.

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

I donno about that. Often the two go hand in hand so tightly its impossible to talk about one without considering the other.

After all, we already have a general hardware/software forum. Maybe splitting THOSE two up... .

My vote would be "no." The desktop video forum is not that active as it is, splitting it in two would really slow things down.

          Let me rephrase that...
With the soso performance of products from mga recently - sorry haig - I'm not just referring to a split but also maybe - just maybe an expanded DV/CGI high end video section to murc.

I don't want to make you lives difficult, just the opposite, I'm looking at attracting more people and information to this area.

While CGI and DV don't quite overlap they do have more in common - then being thrown into the GH/S realm.

Think expansion not split, so any ideas, things you would like to see - this also includes hardware/software reviews etc, please feedback and ideas.

            Please, Dan, no!

There are already too many forums covering these subjects, some entirely soft, some hard and some mixed. I look at and contribute to three of them and lurk on a couple of others. I do not have any time to take in any others: there are already half-a-dozen that I should but don't lurk and/or contribute. I can promise you that any new ones will not even be looked at by myself.

Please don't start anything new to compete with what exists already.

It's just an idea or two that we are tossing around, nothing fixed as yet. so don't panic.

Apart from the DV section we are looking at other things to cover in general, in particular the review area - like doing mobo round-ups specifically looking at high end stable use (as opposed to how far can we o/c today). Also the possibility of monitor reviews etc.

The DV section itself as you know is chugging along quite well, but if you haven't noticed other sections on the board are slowing down a bit, just looking at ways to get some fresh blood in.

I personally would like to get some more reviews going, specifically relating to hardware combo's that relate to DV, and other high reliability - high throughput fields.

So again if you have any ideas for any ideas to help murc expand a little (or at least not contract) please share them.

I think hardware/software reviews is a great idea.

I still feel that expanding this forum with other dv forums would dilute a forum that is really not heavily trafficked (I know it's not a word!) as it is. Sometimes there is no activity in here for a 20 hour stretch. Further dilution would tend to make it not worth a look.

If you think you can attract new blood by offering a forum that is totally different than this one, then by all means give it a try. Let's just keep this forum that is primarily digital video capture, editing, and distributing (ie burning DVD's).

A review forum definitely sounds like a good idea. We all have experiences with using new and different hardware/software combos. A specific forum where we can post our testing results and impressions for the benefit of others would be very welcome (I've got a few stories to tell, myself!).

Hulk, that was more or less the idea, (apart from the potential split of this into hardware and software) it was more of a grouping idea.
ie we currently have Hardware, murc life, mothballed forums etc. The idea was to create a Video/CG (or whatever the title would be) section and allow room to expand

Krsesq, new news page going up soon, as long as it all works well it will have a review section - also including a user submit function however you might have an idea there, maybe not a forum (as such) for hardware experience but how about an overclockers type db for hardware combos? (with notes field?) search for working combos...

Just tossing around ideas, these words are not gospel - looking for feedback or improvements....
