  • tv tuner / vid capture add-on for G400 MAX

    Hi,

I've been a reader of this forum since I picked up my G400 MAX in late December. Great discussions here. Like many others, I am (impatiently) waiting news of Matrox's next card!

I am looking for a combo tv tuner and video capture card to add to my G400 MAX. I was considering trading the card in and picking up an ATI Radeon AIW, but I'd like to keep the visual quality of my Matrox.

Can anyone recommend a card that works nicely with the G400 card? I'm looking to spend no more than $300, hopefully closer to $200 or less, if possible. Nothing professional - most of what I'll be capturing will be shows from the tv tuner (which will have cable tv attached to it).
I would like the option to save in mpeg, avi and possibly quicktime, if available.

    System specs are as follows:
P2-450 (so the e450 is out of the question)
    128MB Ram
    Win98
    20GB 7200RPM hd
    Hollywood +

    Thanks for the help!

    jeff,

I think I may have found the perfect TV tuner/Video capture card for the G400MAX. The Rainbow Runner G series, its a Tv Tuner and Capture card with Hardware MJPEG capture, and it costs $149 (US), which is lower than what you wanted. You can order it from the Matrox Online store or wherever you can find one. Hope that I have answered your question.

      dsp,

Thanks for the reply. However, I am hesitant to invest in a RRG as the card sounds as though it is "locked" to the G400. In other words, if/when I upgrade my video card, I will no longer be able to use the RRG.

I am looking for something that is capable of capturing up to mpeg-2, but with with a P2-450, I'm not sure I'll be able to find something in my price range.

P2-450 (so the e450 is out of the question)
Then the ATI Radeon AIW is out of the question too, for the same reason.

With your price range, forget about mpeg2 capturing.
