  • Bottom of half of screen is black when previewing DV type 1 in MS Pro 6.5?

This is weird and it just started for no apparent reason.

The bottom half of the preview screen is black when previewing with project properties specified as DV type 1. This does not occur with instant preview, only high quality preview.

It does not occur if I change project properties to MJPEG.

I suspect something got screwed with the DV codec or direct x layer.

I already ran a repair on MS Pro, didn't help.

I'm now going to reinstall DX9.

    Any suggestions?

      Yes, XP SP1.

I've been running this setup since December though, why would it freak out now?

I'm downloading DX9 right now to see if a reload of that helps.

        Okay, this is nuts.

This occurs when the video card is set to 16 bit color depth. It's okay at 32 bit color depth. Problem is, TV out high quality playback doesn't work at 32 bit color depth.

Haven't tried 24 bit color depth but I do know that the TV tuner won't work at that color depth!

        I have a Matrox g450etv.

        ???

            Mark,

I asked about XP SP1 because I had the same symptoms on DV capture from a Canopus box after I installed SP1. There is a known problem and I had to uninstall SP1 to get it to work again. I don't know if it's related to DirectX or what, but I would try to uninstall SP1 if I were you. I personnally created a second XP test partition so I can still work on my primary one.
I know this is kind of vague, it may or may not apply to your situation.
