Saturday I took a trip to a large computer store to look at at some Maxtor DiamondMax Plus45 45g (54610H6) ATA100's they had on sale. They were well stocked so I started to pick up a couple for use in the RAID of a new system I'm building.

After picking up the first one I noticed that the next box in the rack had a mismarked price. Looking further I saw a second, third and fourth with the same mistake. ALL of them were mismarked to;

$29.99 USD.

In Michigan, USA the law is that if a price is mismarked they have to sell it at that price, no questions or arguements.

Guess how many 45g ATA100 Plus45's I have sitting on my shelf waiting for installation?

NFWay dude!! I have my eyes on setting up a SuperTrak100 RAID5 array in the new system.

SuperTrak 100?? It's a 6 channel ATA100 RAID 3/5 card using an Intel i960RD I/O controller;

RAID3 = striped array + 1 parity drive.
RAID5 = striped array with distributed parity among all the drives.

RAID 3/5 are usually a bit slower than RAID0 on writes due to the use of parity, but with the new switched I/O hardware and the speed of the new ATA100 drives any losses won't likely be noticed.

Think of it as a 6 port switched network for high speed ATA100 drives used in a striped array.

I was doing;

1. a MAJOR LEAGUE ROTFLMAO and

2. wondering how I was going to get what happened out of my mouth BEFORE the wife noticed four drive boxes instead of two

I ended up leaving them in the car while I showed her the receipt

yOur story should go with that one on TV where that actor from the Drew Carey show is joking about the story with Darrell Waltrip, and is telling about this guy who buys this mint 1960's Dodge Charger for $10, and the guy is in the Bahamas with his 'new' girlfriend, when his exwife mails him the $10 bucks she sold his Hotrod for, he opens the envelope and finds only $10 !!
