A quick question on Sony DCR-TRV D8 Camera

I have a Sony DCR-TRV 720 D8 camcorder, works well for what I use it for. My question is, Can I pass back through the camera via firewire out to my vcr, tv, etc without having to record on the camera or having a tape in the camera. I can pass through ie from vcr deck or tv to sony camera via rca jacks then out of the camera firewire into the computer then capture, no problem. I can pass back firewire from computer to camera, but only to record on tape in the camera and I have the camera set on VTR, press record and button beside record then press pause and Im ready to go.
Any help would be appreciated.

This isn't much help. but, my DCR-TRV 50 works fine.
set to TVR I see everything that the camera gets on the TV.
