  • Dr Modrid soundcard help please

    Hi Dr Mordrid,

You have a very similiar system and might be able to help me. I had a audigy 2, then a m audio soundcard. But neither would work with the rt.x100. Now I have a turtle beach. But it won't install in my system. I've tried both the newest driver and the beta. I've put it in pci 6 and 4. Any suggestions.

ps thanks for the earlier advice. I've been working overtime and had little time for my side projects.

don't mean to interlope on your conversation...

But, if the Turtle Beach card won't install, then you may have a bigger problem then sound card.

Haven't had a prob with TB cards on many systems.

Has a web search indicated a known problem with either the board you are using or the chipset contained on the board?

    if not, you had best
    1. yank everything out of the system
    2. do a clean install of windows with only Video/MEM/CPU/Boot HD
    3. then apply all service packs for windows, DX, video drivers,
    4. install sound card and drivers using latest drivers from net
    5. start adding in hardware and installing drivers one at a time and looking for conflicts.

    or:

Bonked sound card? try it another known good machine (without a lot of other hardware installed).

    Good luck,

I'm with moreau here. Somethings either wrong with the OS installation (most likely) or the card itself. I have 7 TBSC's in systems ranging from PIII's to AthlonXP's and never had a problem.

Another thing to check is getting rid of all the other soundcard software & TSRs. Sometimes the other soundcard software is not too good about uninstalling....especially if you yanked the card before uninstalling...

good luck, got 2 Santa Cruz's and have used them in several machines...no probs yet...

Ted's 100% correct here. Leftover TSR's can be a royal pain to get completely uninstalled and they're also good at causing trouble if they aren't.

            Hi All,

Sorry for taking so long to reply. I work in an industry that is hot/cold. I've been working insane hours. Yeah like you care. I'm just trying to say thanks for the suggestions/info, and that it just takes me a while to get trying it. I reinstalled os and the card works, but I still have problems capturing. I think the previous problems were from multiple sound card install /unistall. I had problems with the capture even before I added the aardvark , just so you know. I wish the M Audio worked. It had a nice way to trim the audio inputs easily for the various audio levels I get from my vcr. I'm still a newbie and have had 5 months of a non working system. So some of your info is above me. I came from a art/production background, not a tech one. I have no idea what a tsr is. I will post a new thread with my newest problem. I just want to say thanks for helping with the old problem. Your ideas worked.

ps Also in reading DR MODRIDS system, I noticed the millennium p750 ( sundog) instead of the parhelia. Is it better? I haven't even heard of it.

The P-750 has differences, both positive and negative.

It's a bit slower in gaming than Parhelia and does not support the WYSIWYG plugins that come with Parhelia.

OTOH the P-750 is cheaper & has fixes for banding (which I never saw anyhow), among other things.
