  • Avid Cinema and Ligos question

    Hello All,
    I have MARVEL G200 TV video card. I have the Avid Cinema 1.0 version that came with MARVEL G200 TV card. I know that LIGOS has a MPGEG plugin for the 1.5 version of AVID CINEMA. Does anyone know how to upgrade to AVID CINEMA 1.5 ?

    Thanks,
    -Narahari

    Avid Cinema is now a discontinued, orphan product with no real upgrade path. Avid is giving only limited support at their site;

    http://www.avid.com/products/avidcinema/index.html

    Avid left a lot of their users high and dry. IHMO this makes spending any money upgrading it with the Ligos plugin a waste of resources, especially since you can buy a new (and more powerful) editor with more features for not much more.

    If are interested in a basic editor to replace it that has DV, MPEG-1 and MPEG-2 support built in may I suggest Uleads VideoStudio4? You can check it out and download a trial version here;

    http://www.ulead.com/vs/runme.htm

    As you can see from this page Ulead DOES support their products, and it's a ton more powerful than Avid. Cost: less than $100 USD.

    Another basic-to-midlevel product that many users like is MGI's VideoWave. A new version, VideoWave 4, was just announced a couple of weeks ago and is for sale at MGI's online store. It too is an affordable product at less than $100 USD. Info here;

    http://www.mgisoft.com/video/videowave/index.asp

    If you're interested in a much more powerful editor then Uleads MediaStudio Pro 6.0 is the ticket. This is a very powerful professional product, but it works well with the Marvel and is fairly easy to learn compared to Premiere and other full featured editors. It runs around $400-450 USD street.

    Good luck....

      I saw a generic OHCI firewire card from Dlink that was bundled with VideoStudio 4 on sale for ~$50 at Best Buy a while ago.
