I ask, is it worth installing in WinXP ?

    Why not?

You could do a lot worse: Real-assimilateyourPC-player!

Not sure you will see a huge improvement over WM8 though if you are already running that.

MS has a WM9 demo DVD you can get for $5 postage and handling. Includes software, the BMW films, some trailers and a couple of documentaries. Search for "Do Amazing Things". It has normal and "hi-def" versions of the BMW films, but hi def requires 2GHx+ CPU.

MS is apparently trying to establish WM as an alternative format to MPEG2 on DVDs, players. Don't know how much luck they will have.

I've read somewhere that MP9 once installed can not be uninstalled any more.
I am not sure, but it couldn't be wrong to Ghost the system with an earlyer MP.

I am using mostly MP6.4 (it is quick and small) but have MP8 also installed.

On XP, MP is a Windows component and not defined by revision. You can "remove" it, but of course that probably just disables the player shell and the shared DLLs remain.
