  • Virtual Dub and MP3 Audio compression

    Hello!
I am using virtual dub to add WAV audio to a video, but under Audio Compression I cannot use any MP3 audio datarates higher than 56Kbps, 24MHZ, Stereo when I selecte the "show all formats" option. Previously, I was able to select higher rates i.e 192Kbps, 44Mhz...
This WAV audio is 16Bit, 44Mhz, Stereo and I see no reason why I shouldn't be able to encode at a higher rate... UNLESS, the codec is in some way messed up (I think I did install the new Media Player7 and it might have written over my original MP3 codec)..
Any solutions and how do I download and install a new codec?

    Thanks a lot!

    Hello misery

You are doing the right thing with the wrong codec. As you point out yourself, a codec replacement has occured. Go into Control Panel and activate Multimedia. Go to the last section and locate the audio codecs. This is the list of codes currently in your system. I would think you have got a "shareware" mp3 codec installed, which will not allow you to select the high quality settings until you cough up the cash and unlock/crack the codec.

Delete the codec from the list, and download the DivX 3.11alpha package from the net and install it. This package gives you a full-featured mp3 codec.

And I do hope the samplerates you are refering to are 44kHz and not 44MHz. Otherwise, it is not the mp3 codec that has a problem

As I always say: You can get more with a kind word and a 2-by-4 than you can with just a kind word.
