is there a way to import directly a folder from a dvd such as the main movie content for direct editing in mspro 7?

    To extract MPEG's from an unprotected (typically non-commercial) DVD for editing you use Video Capture;

    1. select the "Ulead DVD-VR Plug-in"

    2. in "Capture" check "Auto (no time limit)". Check "Save to Production Library" and you'll see them in the editors Production Library/Media Library. Don't bother to set the audio.

    3. If you're using a FAT32 capture drive also check "Auto naming" and set up "Seamless Capture" in the "Advanced" tab. If you're capturing to an NTFS drive don't bother.

    4. By default the MPEG's are extracted to the My Documents/Video Capture folder. If you want them to go elsewhere you can change it by changing the folder defined in "File" using the "Browse" button. Just browse to the new location and enter a file name.

    5. click "Properties", browse to the DVD's VideoTS folder and click OK. Click OK in the Capture Video window as well. This takes you to the "Select Scenes to Capture" dialog.

    6. in the "Select Scenes to Capture" dialog click each scene and you'll see the stream properties. Write them down so you can set up an appropriate MPEG editing profile later. Now would be a good time to trim each scene if required using, of course, the "Trim" button. Select the scene(s) you want to capture and click "Finish".

    Enjoy....

What kind of DVD is it? Home brewed or commercial?

its one from school, i think its copyright protected tho, cause i just put another in that wasn't, and it works, however whenever i goto trim, and try to move the slider, it crashes. weird.

okay related q, i want to take a compliation of videos off some dvds i have made, and i want to put certain ones all one 1 dvd, however, i would like certain videos that are less important to be of lesser quality to save space, is this possible? or do they all have to be the same bitrate?

also if there is 2 languages on the disk, how do i choose which language i want it to rip?

Don't forget that DVD can use more than just the usual MPEG-2 720x480/576 format people are always talking about. Other resollutions are legal including VideoCD encoded MPEG-1. Also legal is halfD1 (352x480 NTSC/576 PAL).

You can use whatever bitrate you want up to the max allowed by DVD: 9600 kbps combined audio & video, regardless of the resolution. I doubt you want to go that high.

You can mix/match bitrates & resolutions as long as you have DVDWS or DVDMF2 set up not to convert compliant files. In DVDWS this is on the Finish page. In DVDMF2 it's in the Project Settings page (the Check box on the Finish page) just under the "Change MPEG Settings" button.

I typically encode full frame MPEG's to halfD1 (352x480/576) to save space. HalfD1 works very well unless the video has detailed graphics, in which case the full 720x480/576 frame is the best option.

              Languages I don't deal with.

                  oh oh, one more thing

why does it rip the file into segments? can you rip it all in one file?

Each segment is a scene, and are often stored separately. How they get divided up is up to the person doing the encoding.

You can get a preview in the Select Scenes menu by selecting a scene and clicing on TRIM button. Now you can play the file to determine its language. Just don't do an actual trim unless you mean it

When setting up to capture them you can use ctrl-select to just select the ones you want (english for example). Takes some work though.

The version of DVDMF2 that comes with MSP7 can handle and encode AC3.

                          DVDWS doesnt' read DVD folders...yet
