  • premiere vs msp

    Hi!
    I've been on this forum for a while, and i can see that everybody is very found on MSP. I'm using Premiere and i'm okay with it, however, i would like to know some opinions where MSP is better than Premiere .. and perhaps where Premiere is better than MSP.

    I use MSP7 and Premiere 6.5 all the time. From the most commonly used features point of view;

    MSP7 can;

    capture/edit/export both DV type 1 and type 2 (Premiere crashes to the desktop without warning when it sees a type 1 file)

    export DV to IEEE-1394 or about any codec to analog in realtime (using a dual head capable card)

    export previews, scrubs and effect control window previews to analog outputs (using a dual head capable card)

    adjust its level of multi-threading

    export DVD compliant MPEG's with 1/0 or 2/0 AC3 encoding without an $$ plugin

    export said MPEG's using the same MainConcept MPEG encoder that's built into Premiere 6.5

    export effects laden DV or MPEG's 1.5 to 2x faster than Premiere

    do summary timeline editing (nice for long timelines as it shows a standard size transition icon while shortening the visual length of clips)

    rotoscope (Video Paint module)

    do keyframeable variable speed

    use cues with the Storyboard

    do better moving paths (motion)

    provide better support for image sequences

    support SSE2 & Advanced 3DNow! program wide (Premiere only in DirectShow I/O modules)

    support HT CPU's

    better support dual cpu's (Premiere's support is quite limited)

    better support dual head display cards (ESPECIALLY Matrox's!!)

    accept Cool3D Production Studio animation project files on the timeline (not so in Premiere)

    import unprotected DVD folders or disk contents to MPEG's for re-editing (Video Capture module)

    import/export DVD-VR disk contents (DVD video recorders)

    comes with a special version of DVD MovieFactory 2 LE, which does basic DVD authoring quite nicely....including the burning of DVD's with AC3 audio.

    I could go on for a couple of pages, but you get the idea....

    Premiere 6.5 can;

    use more plugins (but then many of these provide what are standard features in MSPro7)

    use virtual clips (nice, but not essential)

    crash your system in flames after a long edit if you use the default number of undo buffers with less than 2-3 gigs of RAM

    be used with the RT.X100 editing card (which improves its utility about 200%)

      Well, MSP certainily scores big time with stability, and i have a G400. I had some crashes myself with Premiere, and you shown some other things i wouldn't like to try , so maybe i'll try MSP also.
      Thanks.
