  • Type effect title

I am trying to achieve a "type in" effect for some words on a video (ie as if the words are being typed on the screen, or you are watching a monitor that someone is typing on). MSP7 has this feature in it's titler with pop-up. However, despite installing the latest patch (7.01) it will only allow a colour of gray, although you can change it, it will not save and always returns to grey.

Any ideas how to achieve this effect with other software. I could create a mask over the words in After Effects and reveal them, but I have about 25 of them to do, so a more efficent method would be appriciated if anyone can suggest one? I have seen this effect quite frequently so there must be an easy way... Thanks

The slow way is to use to Photoshop or Illustrator, type in your text and then save the file. Now you erase one character at a time, saving a new file each time until there's no text left. You reassemble all these files on your NLE's timeline in reverse order so that rather than disappearing, the characters appear, as though they are being typed. You'll have to tweak each still's duration to get the right effect.

    Good luck.

I didn't think it would be this difficult. I will create the text in photoshop and place a mask over it and move the mask over time in After Effects.

If only MSP7 was working properly...

        Hi,
back in 98 i had downloaded (from the msp forum i think) a sample project wriiten by a guy from Netherlands that it was simulating typewriter writing. The project was made in msp25 but i have tested in msp65 and it still works.
Well hope that it will help you

Thanks, I have alreday done it in AE, but I haven't finished the project so may use this instead if it is better.

You must have a good back up and filing system, I doubt I could find such a file after five years very quickly!
