  • video card question

Getting ready to upgrade for digital video projects and DVD burning and this board has been very helpful. Right now, I plan on buying a P4 2.4 G 800 FSB processor and ABIT MB (and 400 DDR ram). Also will buy Canopus digital bridge.

I plan to continue to use my old matrox G400 - TV card even though I won't be doing any more mjpeg compression. Is this a problem? Do I need a different card?

Also, I have to keep win 98 se as my operating system because of high costs of updating other software.

    Thanks.
    Jon

Check your mainboard to make sure it supports AGP4x as some new ones will accept AGP8x only. You may run into a problem finding AGP8x cards with Win9x/ME drivers though.

Thanks for the advice. Just checked in the Abit MB I think I want and I assume this spec can be taken as it supports both:

Accelerated Graphics Port connector supports AGP PRO 8X/4X (0.8V/1.5V).

Also, will having a slower video card have any negative consequences with editing and burning DVDs?

For 2D and video I doubt you would notice any difference between a G400 and the latest and greatest cards. The big differences are mainly in 3D performance and capabilities.
