I saw a really good 'For better or worse' strip.
new mother was stressing and fretting. their land lady who is a wonderful motherly type who has been there done that have the new mother a timer.

Instructions were if in the middle of the night, the baby cried. set this egg timer for ten mins. if the baby is still crying get up and fix the problem.

Next strip, baby starts crying, she sets the timer. after ten mins it goes off:
Hubby (Micheal): Well that didn't help she's still crying.
Wife: She may be crying but at least I'm not.

Don't have kids, but helped look after enough of friends new borns to know there maybe some wisdom in that.

You'd better do shift work and let her sleep normal hours, otherwise you're gonna have another problem

Yup...they're pretty predictable...but they also learn how to manipulate you very quickly. Take this lesson from a 4 time father, 3 of them boys which are by far more difficult to raise.

By this I mean that if you jump right up when they make the first sound they are going to get the idea real quick that they have some measure of control over the situation.

Once this happens it's going to be "let's see how many times I can make them pay attention to me tonight", as in getting you in there every 15-30 minutes, and with twins that would be a living hell because they do start keying off each other very quickly

YES, they are that smart early on. Don't ever underestimate them or their smarts. They learn faster than you do

Avoid this trap and you'll both get more sleep and you'll be training them as to who's boss.

              Thanks, Doc!!

The kid was up late crying for food before a feeding so I put him down and closed the door. Sure he screamed for a while, but now he's fast asleep. Ah, blessed silence.

                Congratulations and condolences .

the father however is recovering from mental stress
You better get good and recovered now because when they hit their teens you're going to have more mental stress than you ever imagined possible!

I know I'm going to have my hands full from now until eternity with these guys! But I think it is well worth the effort
