Also I'd give DivX ;-) a try - though there are mixed opinions about it and it's at least partly a ripped M$ Mpeg4 codec and thus illegal. http://divx.ctw.cc/index_main.html

I'd be glad to hear about a good free realtime sound-codec myself.
