  • RT.X10 and VFW Captures in Premiere

I'm having a bit of trouble in Premiere using VFW captures. I mainly want to cap analog in huffyuv, which I can't do in RT.X10 mode. It says its unable to connect to capture driver. Am I doing this in the right mode? I'm sure this is in a manual somewhere, but it's escaping me at the moment. I'm able to capture in AVI_IO, so I know a VFW driver is present. That capture had audio synch and frame rate errors, so I'll have to play with it for a while to find the best settings. Any suggestions?

I do HuffYUV, PICVideo etc. captures using RGB as the Format and the codec as the Compression with my RT.X100, which should work the same. The rub is you'll have to configure HuffYUV for RGB as it's by default set up for YUV.

This is different from other Matrox cards where YUV is the best option. RGB gives you a full selection of frame sizes while YUV only gives you 720x480 plus I find it doesn't drop as many frames.

RGB also works better with Uleads MPEG capture plugin.

Thanks Doc, I got it working. One question though. Any file I capture in Premiere, at 720x480, plays at 352x240 in media player and other direct show apps. They say 720x480 in the properties and open at that res in VirtualDub. Files captured in AVI_IO play at the captured res, just not those from Premiere. Is it something to do with the direct show control panel? I have it disabled, is there something else I need to do?

The file size issue is one between pre MediaPlayer 9 builds and DirectShow.

If you look in the MediaPlayer/Tools/Options/Performance menu you'll find a slider at the bottom labeled "Digital Video". This should be at Large and not the smaller default size size. This should set the DirectShow filter likewise.

MediaPlayer 9 has this in another menu; ....Performance/Advanced, but the default is Full so you shouldn't have to deal with it.
