Many of you will remember my posts about ripping MPEG's from DVD and DVD-VR disks using Video Capture and the DVD-VR plugin.
In those posts I noted that AC3 audio in the resulting MPEG's may not be "visible" on the Video Editors timeline or editable in Audio Editor.
Apparently this is not consistantly the case as Jerry Jones wrote me to say he CAN use AC3 on the Video Editors timeline and in the Audio Editor.
After some playing around I managed to fix this on my systems so that VE and AE can both edit AC3 audio content. Here's what I did;
1. install the MPEG VIO patch.
This patch is supposed to help with users of Win9x/ME and those that have Premiere 6.5 installed as well. This is because Premiere 6.5 also has a MainConcept MPEG encoder plugin.
I do have Premiere 6.5 installed to the same system as the patch notes, but wasn't getting the VIO error noted on the patches page and so didn't install it.
Guess it fixes more than just the error message and absence of MPEG exports 'eh?
2. install the 7.02 update patch (just for good measure).
That's it. Once I installed the patches in this order AC3 started showing up and working perfectly.
