Bad sound when recording back to VCR

I have a Marvel G400 TV and almost everything works fine, except the
recording of an edited clip back to the VCR. In this case the sound on the
resulting tape is really poor.
When watching the clip on the PC the sound is fine. Also, the sound of the
VCR works fine with recording from the antenna.
Has anyone else experienced this problem?
What might be wrong with my setup?

When you say the sound is very poor can you explain in some more detail. Is it very faint or all distorted.

My first thoughts would be to check the level of output from your soundcard to the VCR.

You might be blasting far too much volume or far too little at the VCR.

For a year, or so, ago I experienced "poor" sound when recorded to VCR. For me the "poor" was: low sound level. Then I bypassed the BOB audio and the sound level is much better. (Audio out from soundcard directly to VCR or to my stereo amplifier).
No more max volume controll since the bypass.

The bypass made my Marvel G400 to switch even the video more stable.

I have the same problem. The sound is fine when there is no signal form the composite (only sound and blue screen on my tv) but when I start DVDMax the sound is very poor - uselees

That would also be my first suggestion. Too high an output volume can cause major distortion, especiallyl if the deck has an audio preamp stage that's a bit hot.

I think the problem is the sound volume from the soundcard... I don't think it should be on max...

Hey Guys,

Thank you very much for your help. Playing with the sound controls helped for the sound. It is now loud and clear enough for me. Still I have the problem that I cannot distinguish between left and right channel. Therefore left channel disturbs the entire sound impression. I have to switch to mono to avoid this.
