      How many powerup cycles have your drives gone through since installation? These drives arrive with data verification turned on, which can cause throughput problems at first. There is a utility on Maxtors site for turning this off manually.

        I shutdown my computer at night so I'm sure it has been more than 10 power cycles.
        I'll check it anywyas.

            Asus has a habit of selling very stable AND pricy mainboards, do their mainboards also exhibit this problem?

            I'ts not just SBlive cards that produces crackles on a mobo with via chips.

            I had a mobo that dident like any PCI card at all!

            With a ISA SB card it got crackles even with network cards in pci!

              Enrico;

              You use it from DOS. The program will auto-detect the Maxtor drives it can modify and do them even though they're connected to the Fasttrak.
