  • AVI_IO - The Key to keeping Audio and Video in Sync

Learned of this program from the newsgroup REC.VIDEO.DESKTOP and wanted to share it, as a recent addition.

I use Win 98 SE and my Matrox Marvel G400-TV and have had trouble getting my Audio and Video to stay in sync when capturing, particularly with media longer than 30 minutes, like the Stargate Season 7 Two hour premiere.

This program, AVI_IO, which is available at:

Has built-in audio/video synchronization enforcement, and it works very well indeed.

I tested the free version than recently registered the app for the $25 fee and am happily capturing with full audio and video sync.

It is a small, simple program that seems to work efficiently and also has the benefit of being able to handle the AVI file size limit in a very effective way.

Just wanted to share the joy.

    Good luck and happy capturing!

Odd. I posted requesting help on how to sync Audio and Video and did not receive any replies, I believe, that pointed to that program.

Sorry if I made a mistake.

No mistake to it; you were just preaching to the choir

I just finished a full 2 hour capture using AVI_IO, Matrox Video Tools 1.52 with the matching 5.41 display drivers and the Macrovision Removal Patch for 1.52, and it appears to have worked extremely well.

I had AVI_IO set to 22.1khz sound, 16 bit mono (to save space) and the Capture settings were at:

          29.97 Frames Per Second
Detect Signaldrop after # of drops at 20
          Allow capture to resume checked
Maximum File Size in MB at 2048
Audio Interleave in milisec at 500
Assign Session Numbers checked (very convenient)
          Align to disk sector checked

I recorded off the Matrox G400-TV at default specs, which is MJPEG medium quality (352x240)

It was after DAYS of testing, reading the help files, scanning Usenet archives for tips, and reading this board, before I was able to get it all working the way I wanted to, but I'm very, very happy with the results.

Captured 2 hours to 6 gig of files, which is fine for archiving, and I'll edit it to remove the commercials and do a final process to MPEG1 at 352x240, I believe.

I'm glad this and so many other resources were available - I could not have done it without them.

          Thanks, folks!
