I have a laptop from Toshiba with the strangest drive.
The drive model is Toshiba SD-R6012.
Apparently, there are various revisions of this drive on the market.
Toshiba has a page here that is really confusing to me:
Two firmware upgrades are available for this drive:
#1
SD-R6012 Firmware download - Version 1034
Update utility for Win 98, Win ME, Win 2000 and Win XP to upgrade the firmware of an SD-R6012 slimline DVD-R/RW drive from version 1030,1031,1032 or 1033 to version 1034
(file: SDR6012-1034.exe)
#2
SD-R6012 Firmware download - Version 1734
Update utility for Win 98, Win ME, Win 2000 and Win XP to upgrade the firmware of an SD-R6012 slimline DVD-R/RW drive from version 1730,1731,1732 or 1733 to version 1734 (file: SDR6012-1734.exe)
My question is:
How do I determine whether my drive actually needs a firmware upgrade?
Where does the current firmware version show up?
I can't find it.

P.S. This Toshiba drive is strange; it writes to CDs and to DVD-R/DVD-RW, but it only *READS* DVD-RAM - it won't write to DVD-RAM.
