    Soooo....let me get this straight;

    I can spend almost $2200 for a 180g Barracuda and still need more money for a decent SCSI controller

    or

    I can spend ~$1150 for 4 Maxtor 80g ATA100 drives and a Fasttrak100 and end up with a total of 320 gigs of storage that would likely be faster than the Barracuda.

        Seagate have just announced a 200 gigabyte version at about three kilobucks!

          Lessee.....more calculator trix:

          Promise SuperTrak100 (6 MASTER channels, i960RD based IDE RAID): ~$550 USD

          Six Maxtor 80g ATA100's: ~$1554 USD

          Total cost: $2104 USD

          Total capacity: 480 gigs

          Throughput: Likely to max out the 133 mb/s capacity of the PCI bus with lots of potential left over.
